Vande Bharat sleeper trains project gets a boost; TMH-RVNL consortium sorts differences, signs deal
Vande Bharat sleeper: The consortium partners consisting of Russia's TMH Group and India's Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), who had the lowest bid for the sleeper design Vande Bharat trains tender, have successfully resolved their disagreements. RVNL announced that it has now signed a Share Purchase Agreement with TMH's subsidiary, Metrowagonmash, and Locomotive Electronic Systems (LES), a Russian equipment supplier, reported ET.
On Tuesday, ET had quoted a government official, familiar with the situation that the two parties have been urged to proceed with the contract signing for the sleeper design Vande Bharat trains tender. With a bid of Rs 120 crore per train,
TMH-RVNLoffered a much lower price compared to competitors such as BHEL-Titagarh (Rs 139.8 crore), Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML)-Siemens (Rs 145 crore), Alstom Transport (Rs 164.52 crore), and Medha Servo Drives-Stadler Rail (Rs 165 crore). TMH-RVNL bid to supply 120 out of the 200 trains being offered by the
Indian Railways.
The contract entails the delivery of train sets by 2029 and maintenance over a 15-year period. Last month, the BHEL-Titagarh consortium matched the bid price of TMH-RVNL and secured a contract with the Indian Railways for manufacturing the remaining 80 Vande Bharat sleeper train sets.
